Breaking up is hard to do...

You know it's going to be a rough week when one of your favorite bands announces first-thing on a Monday they're done.

Sure, I've been through band break-ups before. The Format announcing they were over was kind of rough on my coming-of-age heart, and I'm still not completely over Phantom Planet's "indefinite hiatus" - esp. when certain members keep teasing reunions on Twitter...and honestly? I'm not even that broken up over The Like's announcement - because it's really not all that surprising.

But it still sucks.

I left the much lauded Houston Arcade Fire show knowing one thing.

I desperately want to be Regine Chassagne when I grow up.

Photoblog: Quiet Company, Gatlin Elms & The 71s in Bryan

To kick off my birthday weekend a few weeks back, my new concert-buddy-slash-Okie-I-love Lori and I crashed an A&M end of school party in Bryan - for who else but Quiet Company. (Seriously, I love these guys and don't expect me to stop telling you how awesome they are anytime soon. If you haven't, do yourself the greatest favor of your life and go check out their music.)

Tons of great music was to be had - finally got to hear Gatlin Elms & the 71s, who I've heard lots about around Twitter. Despite their...interesting attire, I also kind of completely fell in love with Electric Touch. and the Stafford on Main in quickly becoming one of my favorite music venues.

To read about our fun, check out Lori's blog for her write-up. Also check out her kick-ass photos from when we jumped on stage with Quiet Company for "On Modern Men" right here. There's some of Tommy that are just stunningly awesome.

Skybombers in the USA

It's not often Nyssa and I truly get to share a local band. Thus is the problem with living halfway around the world from each other - she in Melbourne, Australia and me in Texas. Aside from big label bands who can afford to travel between our countries, we're usually seeing completely different bands and sharing about them over Twitter or our respective blogs.

Which is perfect - music is how we became friends. We were both members of a band fan club in the early 2000s and haunted the music section of the message boards. While the initial band brought us together, we found we had a lot of other music in common despite the distance. It quickly became our routine to check in daily via message board and BS about the music we were digging, our naive impressions of the music industry, and whatever else crossed our minds.
