Crazy life fueled by crazy dreams...

Justin Moore of Ingram Hill
As a music writer, I shy away from quoting "Almost Famous." Ever. It's too much of a cliche, and I've heard too many professional music writers say "If you want to do this because you liked 'Almost Famous,' you should turn around and go back and be a lawyer or something."

Okay, so maybe they don't say that since that's a Lester Bangs line from the movie. But the basic sentiment is if you just want to live life like Penny Lane, don't bother.

I decided I wanted to be a writer a good five years before the movie ever came out, and it wasn't until three years after I decided I wanted to write for a music magazine some day. So that makes me feel a little bit better about breaking my one (and only) rule when it comes to writing about music and quoting the following:

I always tell the girls never take it seriously. If you never take it seriously, you never get hurt. If you never get hurt, you always have fun. And if you ever get lonely, you can go just go to the record store and visit your friends.

Exciting news: I am now a contributor on PrettyRiot.com, which I'm pretty dang excited about. My first post on the Courrier/Quiet Company show at the Ground Hall a few weeks ago is up and you can find it right here.

Go read and browse the rest of the site while you're there. And a big thanks to Jessica for having me!

A closer look...

Quiet Company @ Ground Hall Saturday night
"You have such an ear for music," Amanda told me Saturday night as we were driving home from the Quiet Company show at Ground Hall.

"Whatever," I said, rolling my eyes. I mean, I love the Spice Girls so much I would have a nightly dance party to their music for God's sake!

"No, I'm serious. Like when we saw Freelance Whales, and you were talking about how good they are. Miniature Tigers was okay, I liked them. But then Freelance Whales got up there and it was like 'wow!'"

I laughed. "I just like stuff with different instruments."
