Come on this musical ride with me...

Granada Theater - Dallas, TX

Despite the tongue-in-cheek name of this blog, I have only once been called a groupie – to my face, anyway. I can only imagine what certain friends and frienemies have assumed and said behind my back.

It was March 2004. I saw Rooney at a free radio show in a dance club. Myself and the four friends I went with made up the entire first row. (It was a tiny stage.) After the show, the club opened for regular business and between snide remarks about how young we looked, we bolted from venue and straight to the tour bus door.

By this time, my “best music friend” Mel and I had made enough trips to Deep Ellum in Dallas that we had our method down: if the fans were crazy, hang out in the venue for awhile and eventually make our way to the bus for pictures and signed posters. If we were the only ones into the band, bolt immediately to catch them before they got on the bus, otherwise we’d probably be left hanging.

Bow down, Daisy Duke.

Katie and I set off to the Chicago stop of Hanson’s “Shout It Out” tour with one mission: get Rooney to play “Daisy Duke.”

Yes. We traveled a combined 3,700 miles to hear the opening band play one song.

Why did we so desperately want to hear this song? For starters, the bridge includes the line “I’m sorry for cuffing you to my bathtub.” Doesn’t that sound like a song you want to hear live? Nevermind the endless sexual undertones that I’m 95% sure add up to this particular tune being a very cleverly veiled pop song about blow jobs.

It's my kind of town, Chicago

Tomorrow morning I set out on yet another music adventure. These are the kinds of long weekends I live for: traveling to a new/different place with the next three days holding all the potential in the world for new inside jokes, new friends and two fantastically amazing shows by two of my favorite bands.

As with any occasion, I made a mix. Which I've been listening to all week. I like for my mixes to tell a story through the lyrics, even if it's a story only I understand. So here's my Chicago story. See you on the flip side.

The Good Groupie loves AJG Photography

My partner in crime started her own photo blog. You should go check it out. Why? It's only a matter of time before Good Groupie escapades end up there.

(Oh, and she takes amazing photos...)

Houston Press Music Awards

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Houston Press. No, not for a music award. (I've tried my hand at piano, drums and guitar. I much prefer to stay on the avid listener side of music.) I want to thank my local weekly alternative for pigeonholing me perfectly when it comes to music.

(I say this in the HP tongue-in-cheek style I've come to love.)

Thanks to my attendance this afternoon of the annual
Houston Press Music Awards, I finally know exactly what sub-sub-genre of local music I should be looking for in this city of two million-plus.

But I'm getting ahead of myself.
